Welcome

Welcome to the web page of APTAE the Spanish Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique.

Who comes for lessons in the AT?

In general there are two categories:

The first is people who have some sort of painful condition, often one that does not respond well to conventional medical treatment. Examples are painful or frozen joints, back pains , breathlessness... The AT is not a therapy but works to re-educate the way the person uses themselves during activity. A surprising number of conditions improve or disappear during this re-education process.

The second category is people who do not feel ill but find that the techniue helps them to move more freely and express their feelings with more freedom. This group includes actors, musicians and athletes.

The web page enables you to read quite a lot about the basic concepts of the AT and there is a book list if you want to read more. Much of the theory of the AT is expressed in words in everyday use that have a special meaning in the context of the AT. For this reason there is no substitute for the actual experience of a lesson.
